Library Books: Where Can I Find What I am Looking For?
There are 5 major categories of books in our library. Each category has its own place or "home" in the library. Most of the books are in alphabetical order by the author's last name. Two exceptions are the biographies, which are in alphabetical order by the subject (a book on Abraham Lincoln is under "L"), and the nonfiction books, which are in order by number.
“E” is for Everybody
These are wonderful storybooks with beautiful illustrations that are fun to look at and excellent to read aloud. But don't think of them as just for little children, because thestories are entertaining for all ages. Read these aloud to your child at bedtime, as a family, instead of television, or for fun.
“E” with "Pink" is for Easy
These are chapter books especially designed for beginning readers. They have pictures and easy to read vocabulary. They are marked with bright pink tape near the top of the spine.
“F” is for Fiction
These are chapter books for independent readers. Students can read these by themselves, but they are also make excellent read alouds. They have few, if any, pictures.
“Numbers” are for Nonfiction
These informational books are available on every topic, including holidays, the earth, animals, arts and crafts, history, geography, and more. Folktales, fairy tales, poetry, and jokes, while not strictly non-fiction, are included in the numbered books.
“B” is for Biography
These fact filled books describe the lives of famous people, often in the form of a story.
