Library Classes
All students have weekly classes in the library. Preschool and Kindergarten come for 20 minutes. We have read aloud, talk about the stories we read, and students spend time looking at books independently. These young students recently began borrowing books from the library. Kindergarteners take them home, but preschoolers keep them in the classroom. Students earn a sticker for each time they remember to bring back their book.
Grades 1 and 2 have 40 minute library classes. We have read aloud with discussion and learn library skills (how to locate and take care of books).
Grades 3 and 4 have 40 minute classes. We have read aloud with discussion, learn library skills (how to locate and take care of books), and research skills (how to find information using books and websites).
Students are learning how to use Athena, our online catalog, to identify books they would like to read, and to use the call number to find the book on the shelf.
