Reading Aloud:

is one of the most important things you can do to help your child read

That is because Reading Aloud:
    * Teaches children new words and correct grammar
    * Shows children that you value reading
    * Is a fun way for families to spend time together
    * Improves children’s attention span
    * Helps children learn to sit and listen
    * Helps children understand what they read, by providing background knowledge
    * Builds strong and rich vocabulary
    * Expands children’s imagination, as they paint pictures in their heads while listening
Talking about stories and books as you read them aloud:
      * Helps children put their ideas into words
      * Helps children write better
      * Encourages children to think about what they read and to ask questions
      * Makes children curious about the world and other books

 Read Aloud Tips

 *  No child is too young or too old to be read to.
*  Pick a time of day, like bedtime, to share stories together.
*  Choose a book that is too hard for a child to read alone.  It is much easier to learn to read new words if a child has heard those words spoken.
*  Chapter books or storybooks make excellent choices
